International Women's Day

The floral industry is female-dominated and it comes as no surprise that majority of the Windflower Florist team are ladies. Women have made great strides in the workplace and been bravely making their way into male-dominated industries; kudos to that! Likewise, more men are joining the floral industry and we've got to admit they craft pretty awesome stuff.  Also, if you don't already know, Windflower Florist is led by a male!

This International Women's Day, the ladies in the team share their thoughts on being a woman.

Share with us one powerful thing about being a woman.

As a woman and as a human being, the most powerful thing would be to respect and love yourself more than anything else. Only then would one be empowered to make the right decisions without any regrets. Live and let live..

How does working in a female-dominated workplace feel like?

It feels great- not that I dislike working with men. I personally feel that women are great communicators as they respond more effectively to visual, verbal, and emotional factors compared to men. Thus, effective communication helps increase work productivity. Besides, who doesn’t like to gossip? A plus point- My boss encourages open communication too!

What is one quote you live by?

“We are what we believe we are.”
- C.S. Lewis

Often, I let opinions of others affect my thought process and decisions. Especially since joining the floral industry, many questioned my career choice as to whether this job can sustain me. Ever since I came across this quote, it has served as a reminder to always believe in myself and achieve the goals I want to achieve.

Who is your favourite female icon & why?

A South Korean makeup artist and Youtuber. Makeup boosts the confidence of every woman but unfortunately we are not born with this set of skills. Her videos are relatable and easy to follow along, and these are the reasons why she stands out from countless beauty Youtubers. How she carved her own success in this industry is an inspiration for us women. If there is something you are good at, there is no limit to what you can achieve :)

Yawen - Florist

Which flower best represents you & why?

I think the Lisianthus flower represents me the most. Despite being a symbol of devotion and beauty, Lisianthus is known as a very resilient flower as it can withstand harsh environmental conditions. And for this reason, it is considered the symbol of rising above hardship and overcoming difficulties. As a newbie in this industry, I have faced many challenges mentally and physically, which I believe many would face as well. However, I believe with perseverance and determination, I (or anyone) will be able to pull through the challenges that come.

How does your workplace empower you as a woman?

In this workplace full of women, we are given a fair share of opportunities to learn and explore. When I fail, I'm encouraged to do better with the help of the ladies and this positive mindset and encouragement gives me more confidence to face my next challenge.
Having a great circle of women really improves your quality in life because real women empower each other.

What is the best gift a woman can give herself?

Self love is the best love. The best gift a woman can gift herself is love. It is tough to love yourself and so often we seek validation and love from someone else. Loving yourself provides you with confidence, peace of mind and inner happiness to take on the world!
