A congratulations card should sound like you mean it, and in Singapore that often means getting the Chinese blessing right. We print these cards and stand sashes every week, for shop openings, promotions, graduations and new homes, and the same question keeps arriving with the order: what exactly do I write? Here are the lines that work, in English and Chinese, and the conventions behind them.

Grand Openings

Openings are the most tradition-bound congratulations in Singapore. The Chinese blessings below appear on stands across the island, and using them signals that you know the form:

  • 开业大吉
    “Great fortune on your opening.” The essential phrase; safe on any card or sash.
  • 生意兴隆
    “May business flourish.” Usually paired with the line above: 祝开业大吉，生意兴隆.
  • 财源广进
    “May wealth flow in.”
  • 大展宏图
    “May your grand plans unfold.” Suits ambitious ventures and expansions.
  • 蒸蒸日上
    “Onwards and upwards, day by day.”
  • 生意兴隆通四海，财源广进达三江
    The classic opening couplet. Traditional and formal; best on a grand-opening stand sash rather than a small card.

In English: “Congratulations on your grand opening! Wishing you roaring business from day one”, or simply “To new beginnings and a full till.” For the company-to-company stand, the inscription convention is 贺 XX公司开业之喜 —— YY公司 敬贺 (“Celebrating the opening of [their company], respectfully, [your company]”). A grand-opening stand should arrive the morning of opening day, before the first guests.

Promotions and New Jobs

  • 恭喜高升
    “Congratulations on the promotion.” The standard line.
  • 前程似锦
    “A splendid road ahead.” Pairs well: 恭喜高升，前程似锦.
  • “Congratulations on the promotion. Nobody has earned it more.”
  • “New title, same brilliance. So proud of you.”
  • “To the next chapter. They are lucky to have you.”

Graduations

Graduation season peaks around the July and October convocations here. If the graduate is receiving flowers on campus, see our graduation flowers and time the delivery before the ceremony photos.

  • 学业有成，前程似锦
    “Success in your studies, and a splendid future ahead.” The classic graduation blessing.
  • “You did it. All those years, all that work. So proud of you, graduate.”
  • “Congratulations, [name]! The tassel was worth the hassle.”
  • “First of many stages. Enjoy every minute of today.”

New Homes and Office Moves

  • 乔迁之喜，新居安康
    “Joy on your move; health and peace in the new home.”
  • 乔迁大吉，业务蒸蒸日上
    For an office relocation: “Fortune on the move; may the business keep climbing.”

Weddings

  • 百年好合，永结同心
    “A hundred years of harmony, two hearts joined forever.” The classic wedding blessing.

In English, keep it warm and simple: “To a lifetime of love and laughter. Congratulations to you both.”

Congratulations Messages: Common Questions

The sash convention is a blessing line plus the sender, for example 贺 XX公司开业之喜, signed YY公司 敬贺, or simply 开业大吉 with the sending company's name below. Give us both company names when you order a grand-opening flower stand and we will set the inscription out in the proper form.

For business openings in Singapore, Chinese blessing phrases are near-universal; 开业大吉 and 生意兴隆 appear on most stands regardless of the sender's own background. A bilingual sash, Chinese blessing plus an English line, is common and always safe.

For a grand opening, the morning of opening day, before guests arrive, so the stand is part of the occasion from the first photo. For promotions and graduations, on the day itself. Same-day delivery covers most of these; for an opening we recommend booking the date in advance.

Yes, offices are routine deliveries for us. Include the company name and level or unit number, and a contact number for the recipient so our driver can coordinate the handover.
